Introduction of the Venues – Lake Balaton

Lake Balaton is a freshwater lake in the Transdanubian region of Hungary. We, Hungarians, call it the „Hungarian sea”, because it literally resembles to one. It’s 78 kilometres long and 1,4 kilometres wide. All tourists will find a way to have fun whether it’s bathing, sailing, horse-riding or playing sports. This is the most popular option when it comes to going on holiday for the Hungarian. Since we are from Nagykanizsa, it is easily accessible for us, especially if we have a weekend house. It is also simply approachable for teenagers, because we can travel by train, which is a pretty cheap way for us.

The main resorts around the lake are Siófok, Keszthely, Balatonfüred and Zamárdi. They all have a buzzing nightlife in the summer, due to music festivals like Balaton Sound and Strand in Zamárdi.

Siófok is on the southern shore and is the centre of summer parties and concerts. Well-known sand-covered beaches are the Aranypart and Ezüstpart. Stunning sights include the water tower,  the Mineral Museum and the Siófok Eye. This town offers an unforgettable summer relaxation, too.

Keszthely is the site of the gorgeous Festetics Castle, which was built in the 18th-19th centuries and is surrounded by a magnificent English park. As you’re walking down the Pedestrian street you can visit the smaller museums, dine in restaurants or at food vendors. The Balaton Museum and Balaton Theatre are also renowned.

Balatonfüred is a historical bathing town where the casual Anna Ball is held. It was a resort of many famous Hungarians – including the writer Mór Jókai and the actress Lujza Blaha – whose magnificent villas have been turned into museums.

The Tihany Peninsula is a historical district and gives home to the yearly organized lavender festival. Badacsony is a volcanic mountain and a wine region. Hévíz is the world’s largest hot water lake. People suffering from chronic gynaecological, rheumatic and some dermatological illnesses can find healing there.

Visiting Lake Balaton and the region is really an enjoyable experience.
